How to Throw a Cast Net and Impress the Kids
Every once in a while, you discover something that changes the game. For me, it was the cast net.
When we started fishing, we were in Lake George. I asked for recommendations on baits to use to catch fish in the lake. The dude suggested blood worms, so we got some.
Angela, Kaleb and I watched in horror when we put the first one on the hook. If anyone tells you worms don’t feel any pain are lying. We’ll never do that again.
The next time, we used a piece of pepperoni and went to a pond in a small town in New Hampshire. We caught our first fish!
Then we ran into the dilemma of getting the hook out of the poor fish’s mouth. Forget what anyone tells you about fish having 3 second memories because that fish is never going to forget the fear of being pulled out of the water and having me struggle with pulling the hook out.
That’s where the cast net comes in. It’s a gentler way of fishing and we love it. Here’s a video on how to throw a cast net.
